In 2055, after artificial intelligence detonates a nuclear warhead over Los Angeles, the human race goes to war with the forces of A.I.. When their home in an isolated corner of New Asia comes under attack, U.S. soldier Joshua (John David Washington) and his pregnant wife (Gemma Chan) end up caught in the crossfire of a military operation, resulting in her death.
Five years on, a still-grieving Joshua is recruited to help with a mission to shift the balance of the war: to take out a newly created A.I. superweapon. It seems a no-brainer, until Joshua discovers that the weapon he has been instructed to destroy is a young child (Madeleine Yuna Voyles).
British director Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Rogue One) has lovingly crafted one of the most original science-fiction films in years. Stunningly original with distinctly inventive visuals, it manages to dazzle and thrill while telling a heartfelt, thought-provoking story.
