PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF FRANCE AND ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE DE CANBERRA
Pierre (Jean Dujardin) is a celebrated but arrogant French writer who is brought crashing back down to Earth – literally – when he climbs the façade of a building and falls several storeys after a night of heavy drinking. The accident leaves him in a deep coma, and when he finally awakens, he is barely able to stand. Against the advice of everyone, Pierre decides to set off on a solo 1,300-kilmoetre hike in an effort to heal his body and mind. Taking forgotten trails through some of France’s beautiful but treacherous regions, he draws comfort from the land’s natural beauty and the kindness of strangers he encounters, all the while documenting his journey and thoughts in a notebook.
Based on true events from Sylvain Tesson’s autobiography, this is a story of healing, resilience and self-discovery. Despite its meditative nature, the film’s stunning scenery makes it a must-see on the big screen.
