Confined to a wheelchair after breaking his leg, professional photographer L.B. “Jeff” Jefferies (James Stewart) spends his free time now observing his neighbours through the courtyard-facing window of his New York apartment. When he begins to suspect that one of them has committed murder, he enlists the help of his sceptical fashion-model girlfriend (Grace Kelly) to investigate.
Aided by a terrific performance from James Stewart, Rear Window showcases director Alfred Hitchcock operating at the peak of his talents, playing the audience like a violin and keeping them on the edge of their seats throughout. As it celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, the thrilling murder mystery remains one of the Master of Suspense’s best films – and one of the best films ever made, period.
And don't miss your chance to hear from Hitchcock himself “beyond the grave” in the cheeky and insightful documentary, My Name is Alfred Hitchcock, screening on Saturday 2 March at 5 pm.
