PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF SPAIN AND THE EMBASSY OF URUGUAY
In 1972, Uruguayan Air Force flight 571 is transporting a rugby team to Chile when it experiences an unexpected incident which causes them to catastrophically crash into a glacier in the heart of the Andes Mountains. Only 16 of the 45 passengers on board manage to survive, but trapped in one of the most inaccessible and hostile environments on the planet, they are forced them to take extreme measures to stay alive.
Director J.A. Bayona (The Impossible) has assembled a cast of mostly newcomers along with striking, on-location cinematography to tell the affecting story of this real-life tragedy. The end result is a visceral, tremendously affecting film about humanity and survival in the worst of circumstances – that must be seen on the big screen for full effect.
Nominated for two Oscars in 2024, including Best International Film.
