In 1988, Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government introduces Section 28, a Local Government Act clause which seeks to prohibit “the promotion of homosexuality” by local authorities across the United Kingdom. For Jean (Rosy McEwen), a closeted gym teacher whose sexuality is a secret from her colleagues, the threat is real: if exposed, her love life could cost her her job. As every query and every whisper about Jean’s private life soon becomes a potential danger, the arrival of a new girl at school threatens to push Jean ever closer to the edge.
Anchored by a stunning performance from Rosy McEwen, this poignant debut film from British writer-director Georgia Oakley grips like a thriller, while exploring a dark period in British history which still sadly resonates.

When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu (Cailee Spaeny) meets Elvis Presley (Jacob Elordi) at a party in 1959, she finds someone entirely unexpected behind the façade of his rock-and-roll superstar persona. Through a long courtship and turbulent marriage – from early days at a German army base to the glory days of Graceland and the arrival of their daughter – Priscilla discovers the unseen side of a great American myth.
Adapting Priscilla Presley’s own memoir, director Sofia Coppola shines a light into the darkest corners of one of history’s most public, yet private, couples. But in this beguiling portrait of love, fantasy, and fame, she wisely keeps her lens focused on her female protagonist, spellbindingly played by newcomer Cailee Spaeny. Jacob Elordi, the Australian actor of Saltburn fame, acquits himself nicely as Elvis too.
