In 1947, Hungarian architect László Tóth (Adrien Brody) arrives in post-WWII America, seeking to rebuild his life and legacy. Under the patronage of the wealthy industrialist Harrison Van Buren Sr. (Guy Pearce), László is commissioned to design a grand modernist monument and help shape the landscape of the country he now calls home – a task that will take him to both monumental heights and devastating lows.
Shot in luxurious VistaVision and divided into chapters – with a very welcome intermission halfway through – director Brady Corbet’s three-and-a-half-hour saga is a gripping and epic masterpiece destined for Oscar recognition. It is towering tribute to the immigrant experience and the American Dream, with a transfixing performance from Brody that gives his Oscar win for The Pianist a run for its money.
Nominated for 10 Oscars in 2025, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor (Brody).
