Edward (Sebastian Stan) is an aspiring actor struggling with facial disfigurement resulting from a genetic condition known as neurofibromatosis. Hoping it will bring him the success he’s always desired, Edward undergoes a radical medical procedure to alter his appearance and begin his life anew. His new face quickly becomes a prison, however, as he misses out on a role he was destined for and spirals into an all-consuming obsession to reclaim what he has sacrificed.
