1918. When British civil servant Edward (Gonçalo Waddington) abruptly abandons his fiancée Molly (Crista Alfaiate) on the day of their wedding, he embarks on a whimsical yet poignant escape across colonial-era Southeast Asia. Edward’s journey – through Burma, Singapore, Bangkok, and beyond – creates a vivid tapestry of Eastern landscapes and enigmatic encounters, including opium-addicted diplomats and mystic monks. Meanwhile, Molly follows in hot pursuit, determined and unyielding.

Directed by Miguel Gomes, Grand Tour is an eccentric and at times dizzying blend of romance, adventure and cultural exploration. Shifting between historical reenactments and documentary footage, it is an immersive sensory journey through time and place that challenges notions of empire and identity while capturing the profound simplicity of the human heart.
