A landmark co-production between the Australian and Indian film industries, Hindi-Vindi tells the story of Kabir (Mihir Ahuja), a teenage musician living in Sydney who has long been conflicted about his cultural identity. When his ailing Indian grandmother (Neena Gupta) comes to live with him, Kabir initially struggles with the language barrier. But where words fail, the universal language of music speaks, and Kabir soon discovers a newfound appreciation of the Hindi language and his Indian heritage.
Making his acting debut, Australian music icon Guy Sebastian draws on his own Anglo-Indian roots to play Kabir’s father – and, of course, contribute a couple of original songs to the film’s soundtrack, which fuses traditional Indian and Western music in beautiful harmony.
