Souleymane (Abou Sangaré) is a recent Guinean asylum seeker who spends his days racing through the bustling streets of Paris as a food delivery cyclist. He has just two days to prepare for a crucial interview that will determine his residence permit status, but must still tirelessly work to earn enough to pay for his application. Souleymane is also forced to meticulously rehearse his “story” – a narrative designed to secure his asylum, even if it diverges from the truth.
Directed by Boris Lojkine, a former philosophy professor known for his realistic character studies, this French drama is as gripping and urgent as they come. By immersing viewers in Souleymane’s struggle for survival and dignity, it offers a harsh look at the daily challenges faced by undocumented refugees striving for a better life in Europe.
