16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence is a global annual campaign led by UN Women, with the aim of raising awareness of and preventing violence against women and girls. The campaign runs every year from the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25 to Human Rights Day on December 10. The ANU Film Group is proud to be supporting this campaign in 2025 by hosting four FREE film screenings about equality and women’s rights during the 16 Days.

Witness a fight for fundamental human rights in The Sharp Edge of Peace, a compelling and necessary political documentary from pioneering Afghan filmmaker Roya Sadat. The film follows four courageous women—Fatima Gailani, Fawzia Koofi, Habiba Sarabi, and Sharifa Zurmati—the only female members on the Afghan government’s negotiating team during the fraught peace talks with the Taliban.

With the 2021 withdrawal of foreign troops and the Taliban's impending takeover, the stakes were immeasurable, particularly for women. The film chronicles their journey from Kabul to Doha, risking their lives to broker a peace that would not cost Afghan women their hard-won equality. The documentary, which premiered at Hot Docs 2024, has been recognized internationally, recently winning Best Film at the Asian Film Festival Barcelona.

Please note that this film replaces the previously scheduled Shot the Voice of Freedom, which is unfortunately no longer available for screening.
