PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ROYAL NORWEGIAN EMBASSY

Acclaimed Norwegian director Joachim Trier (The Worst Person in the World) returns with an intimate drama centred on Nora (Renate Reinsve), a successful Oslo stage actress whose world is upended by the return of her estranged father, Gustav (Stellan Skarsgård). A once-renowned filmmaker, Gustav attempts to mend their fractured relationship by casting her in his comeback project. When Nora rejects the offer, he casts American starlet Rachel Kemp (Elle Fanning) in the role instead – reopening old wounds between Nora and her sister Agnes (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) and forcing the family to confront years of silence and resentment.

Sentimental Value masterfully navigates the tension between artistic expression and the emotional cost of personal trauma, exploring how families use stories – and cinema itself – to communicate when words fail. Reinsve and Skarsgård deliver exceptional performances, with all four of the film’s stars receiving Oscar nominations for their work and the stellar film receiving nine nominations overall, including Best Picture.
