PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF CHILE
FOLLOWED BY Q&A WITH DIRECTOR MILENA SANHUEZA BEN-DAVID
In 1973, a military coup d'état in Chile began one of the darkest chapters in Latin American history, resulting in the kidnapping, torture, disappearance and murder of thousands of Chileans.
Filmmaker Milena Sanhueza Ben-David uncovers her own father’s harrowing ordeal during the coup alongside the untold personal stories of many other Chilean elders who, like him, eventually sought refuge in Australia. By 1981 more than 18,000 arrived in Australia after seeking refugee status, making their new homes in western Sydney suburbs such as Liverpool, Campbelltown and Fairfield.
Crossing the Pacific is a powerful documentary which serves as a deeply moving tribute to the resilience of the Chilean community in Australia, more than half a century on. It focuses on the collective journey of reclaiming history, weaving together candid interviews and archival footage to honour a generation that turned a legacy of exile into a testament of community strength.

Against the chaotic backdrop of the American Civil War, three opportunistic gunslingers engage in a treacherous race to locate a hidden fortune in Confederate gold. The enigmatic "Good," Blondie (Clint Eastwood), forms a volatile alliance with the "Ugly," a manic bandit named Tuco (Eli Wallach), as they hunt for a specific grave in a vast cemetery. But the cold-blooded "Bad," Angel Eyes (Lee Van Cleef), remains hot on their trail, willing to murder anyone standing between him and the loot. The tension culminates in a legendary three-way standoff, where survival depends on speed, cunning, and having a loaded gun.
Rarely does a film define an entire genre like Sergio Leone’s 1966 Spaghetti Western masterpiece. Renowned for its panoramic cinematography and Ennio Morricone’s iconic score, don’t miss your chance to see this stone-cold classic back on the big screen where it belongs in celebration of its 60th anniversary this year.
