In this self-referential meta-reboot, a group of lifelong friends all find themselves facing mid-life crises. When struggling TV actor Griff (Paul Rudd) manages by sheer luck to secure the rights to their favourite film – the 1997 cult horror Anaconda – the group head into the Amazon jungle to shoot their own low-budget, indie remake.

Led by ambitious wedding videographer Doug (Jack Black), the amateur crew’s nostalgia trip quickly turns a desperate fight for survival when they are hunted by a very real, very big prehistoric snake. As the body count rises, they must use their (limited) wits to outsmart a creature that is far more terrifying than any movie monster they could have imagined.

Directed by Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent), this love letter to 90s creature features perfectly balances action-packed thrills with self-aware comedy, poking fun at the very franchise it’s attempting to revitalise – with the aid of a game supporting cast and stunning Queensland locales.
