Vahid (Vahid Mobasseri) is an unassuming mechanic living a quiet life until a chance encounter at a petrol station turns his world upside down. He believes he recognises a man (Ebrahim Azizi) as the sadistic prison guard who tortured him years earlier in an Iranian jail. Consumed by fear and a burning desire for justice, Vahid begins to stalk the man, intent on forcing a confession or seeking his own form of retribution. What begins as a simple quest for closure spirals into a tense psychological thriller as the lines between victim and aggressor begin to blur in the shadows of his traumatic past.

The latest film from the legendary Iranian director Jafar Panahi was produced under challenging circumstances given the director's ongoing legal struggles. Fortunately, this searing exploration of memory remains a stellar example of Panahi’s brave, humanist form of cinema. It won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for Best International Film (France) and Best Original Screenplay at this year’s Oscars.
