PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA
Man-su (Lee Byung-hun) is a dedicated family man and paper industry expert who is devastated after being abruptly laid off following 25 years of service. After two years of fruitless job hunting, he becomes convinced that his only chance at re-employment is to eliminate his competition – literally. Armed with a desperate plan and a mounting sense of entitlement, Man-su begins to systematically track down and "remove" other qualified candidates for a coveted executive position. As his body count rises, his wife (Son Ye-jin) begins to suspect that her husband's new-found optimism hides a dark and bloody secret.
Legendary South Korean director Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, Decision to Leave) returns with a biting black-comedy thriller that serves as a searing indictment of modern capitalism, based on the novel The Ax by Donald Westlake. Having last collaborated on Joint Security Area in 2000, Park finally reunites with Lee, who knocks it out of the park with a savage yet hilarious performance that is undoubtedly a career-best.
