Thibaut (Benjamin Lavernhe) is a world-renowned orchestral conductor whose life is defined by precision and prestige. After being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, he discovers a startling family secret: he was adopted and has a younger biological brother. He eventually tracks down Jimmy (Pierre Lottin), a modest cafeteria worker who spends his spare time playing the trombone in a struggling community marching band. Despite their vastly different social standings and musical backgrounds, Thibaut finds himself revitalised by Jimmy’s raw passion for music, ultimately deciding to help his brother’s band win a local competition.
Crowdpleasing and heartwarming in a manner than French cinema does best, My Brother’s Band offers a feel-good and sincere interrogation of class and culture. The growing rapport between stars Lavernhe and Lottin forms the heart of this sunny, lively film that expertly balances laughter with tears, celebrating the universal language of music and the resilience of family bonds.
