In the wake of a catastrophic experimental weapon detonation that leaves much of Tasmania's population brain dead, American physiotherapist Ava Newman (Daisy Ridley) joins a military recovery unit. Her primary goal is to find her husband, Mitch (Matt Whelan), who was visiting the island on business. During the grim task of collecting bodies, Ava discovers that some of the deceased are beginning to stir with a calm, purposeful life of their own. She eventually strikes out on her own with a fellow volunteer, Clay (Brenton Thwaites), navigating a landscape of grief and the uncanny as she tries to reconcile her failing marriage with the haunting reality of the undead.

Directed by Zak Hilditch, We Bury the Dead was filmed entirely in Western Australia, doubling for the rugged Tasmanian wilderness.
