In the peaceful Shire, a young hobbit named Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) inherits a seemingly simple gold ring from his uncle, Bilbo (Ian Holm). A visit from the wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen), however, soon reveals it is the One Ring, an instrument of absolute power forged by the Dark Lord Sauron decades ago to enslave Middle-earth. Frodo must now lead an eclectic Fellowship – including his loyal best friend, Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin), and the brave ranger Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) – on a perilous trek to Mount Doom to destroy the ring.

Restructured with approximately 30 minutes of new footage, this extended edition is the definitive way to experience the start of the Fellowship’s journey.
