In the fictional, dusty Australian town of Dunburn, high school outcast Taylah (Natalie Abbott) dreams of a glamorous transformation at the upcoming debutante ball. Her world is shaken up by the arrival of her cynical, city-slicker cousin Maeve (Charlotte MacInnes), who has been sent to the country as punishment for a social media mishap. Despite their clashing personalities, the two join forces to navigate the rigid social hierarchy of small-town life. Together, they challenge local traditions, turning the annual "Deb" into a rebellious, heart-filled celebration of self-acceptance and sisterhood.
Marking the directorial debut of Rebel Wilson, who also stars as the local salon owner Janette, The Deb is a vibrant musical comedy that has been celebrated for its cheeky humour and heartfelt message. It successfully captures the awkwardness and triumph of rural adolescence in a manner not often seen on screen, quickly becoming an audience favourite for its authentic Aussie spirit.
