In 2023, although the film had already been completed, Warner Bros. shockingly decided to permanently shelve Coyote vs. Acme for a tax write-off. Following passionate public outcry, the film was instead sold off and has now finally arrived in cinemas to enthusiastic fan support, critical acclaim and box office success.
This inventive live-action-animation hybrid follows iconic cartoon predator Wile E. Coyote, who grows fed up after decades of catastrophic product failures while pursuing the Road Runner. Realising the Acme Corporation’s defective gadgets are directly responsible for his endless physical trauma, Coyote hires down-on-his-luck personal injury lawyer Kevin Avery (Will Forte) to file a landmark civil lawsuit against the conglomerate. Standing in their way is formidable corporate defence counsel Buddy Crane (John Cena), who uses ruthless legal tactics to protect the company.
You wouldn't think that mashing up Looney Tunes and a courtroom comedy would work, but it absolutely does thanks to clever meta-humour, slapstick energy, and Forte's endearing lead turn.
