Just one day to go until our new Spring season begins with our FREE screening of AVENGERS: ENDGAME, which just this week officially overtook AVATAR to become the biggest film of all time!
Doors will open from 7 PM for entry, for a 7:30 PM film start – or until all 305 seats in the cinema are filled, whichever occurs first. Needless to say, this screening will be a busy one and current members may wish to see the film at our members-only screening next week on Friday 2 August instead to avoid the crowds.
The week then continues with a bevy of Australian hits, including a must-see documentary for all ages, and a trippy arthouse sci-fi thriller from French director Claire Denis.

The surviving Avengers must assemble once more to undo the devastating events of INFINITY WAR and defeat Thanos once and for all, no matter the cost.

In TOP END WEDDING, an engaged couple have just ten days to pull off their dream wedding in the Northern Territory, but must first locate the bride-to-be's missing mother in this romantic comedy.
Then, in CELESTE (at approx. 9:15 PM), a widowed opera diva (Radha Mitchell) finds her retirement in Far North Queensland complicated by the arrival of her late husband's adult son.

A visual letter from a father to his young daughter showing her what the world could look like if we used technology available today to save the environment. Directed by Damon Gameau (THAT SUGAR FILM).

The ANU’s five-day celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing blasts off today! Presented in partnership with the ACT Government, Moon Week features a jam-packed series of events from public lectures to tours, talks, films and workshops.

ANU Professor Penny King and NASA research scientist Dr Abigail Fraeman will present an extended introduction prior to the screening and chat about their own experiences with Mars.

ANU MOON WEEK: JULY 17 – 21

50 years ago, the world took a giant leap when the Apollo 11 mission landed a man on the Moon on July 20, 1969. To celebrate the milestone anniversary of this historic occasion, the ANU and ACT Government will be hosting a five-day programme of events and activities ranging from stargazing to public lectures, tours, exhibitions and space school.
Of course, no celebration of the Moon landing would be complete without films and the ANU Film Group is proud to be co-hosting a number of FREE screenings of space-themed films for all to attend, including FIRST MAN, WALL-E and THE DISH.

A new season may be coming soon, but there’s still plenty to see this week with a girl-powered line-up featuring the final film of our Best Foreign Language Film Festival and two gender-swapped new takes on classic ‘80s comedies.
• FRI 5 JULY @ 7:30 PM: WOMAN AT WAR (M, 101 mins)
An environmental activist risks everything by resorting to sabotage in an attempt to drive out the heavy industry taking over her picturesque home town in this acclaimed Icelandic comedy-thriller.
• SAT 6 JULY @ 7:30 PM: THE HUSTLE (M, 94 mins) + LITTLE (PG, 109 mins)
In THE HUSTLE, two con artists (Anne Hathaway, Rebel Wilson) put aside their differences to take down the men who have wronged them in this gender-swapped remake of DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS.
Then, in LITTLE (at approx. 9:15 PM), a ruthless mogul gets the chance to relive her life – whether she likes it or not – when she wakes up one morning magically transformed into her 13-year-old self.

Plus, in partnership with the ANU, we will be hosting a number of free screenings as part of Moon Week, a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing in 1969. Legendary hit man John Wick (Keanu Reeves) must fight his way out of New York City after a $14 million contract is placed on his head, making him a marked man and the target of the world's most ruthless assassins.
Then, in the 1990 sci-fi classic TOTAL RECALL, Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a man living in the year 2084 who recalls memories of a different life on Mars but can't determine if the experiences are real or planted.

A ragtag family of shoplifters decides to take in a neglected young girl, testing the fragile bonds that unite them, in this Oscar-nominated Japanese drama that also was awarded the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.

• SAT 22 JUNE @ 5 PM: DUMBO (PG, 112 mins)
Tim Burton directs Disney's live-action remake of their classic 1941 animated film, in which a young elephant with oversized ears enabling him to fly becomes the new star attraction for a struggling circus. Starring Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito and Eva Green.
• SAT 22 JUNE @ 7:30 PM: MID90S (MA, 86 mins)
Jonah Hill makes his directorial debut with this coming-of-age comedy-drama set in 1990s Los Angeles, in which a 13-year-old boy spends his summer navigating between a troubled home life and the new friends he meets at a local skate shop.

Our Best Foreign Language Film Festival continues with this highly acclaimed Lebanese drama in which a streetwise 12-year-old boy is sentenced to prison for a crime and decides to sue his negligent parents for the 'crime' of giving him life.

• SAT 15 JUNE @ 7:30 PM: GONE WITH THE WIND (PG, 238 mins w/ intermission)
Celebrate the 80th anniversary of one of the most beloved films of all time! In the American South during the Civil War, a strong-willed woman (Vivien Leigh) finds herself falling for a charming scoundrel (Clark Gable) in this 1939 epic romance that won 8 Oscars, including Best Picture.
The film will be presented in two parts, with a brief intermission after the first two hours.
This week, you can catch the latest film from Oscar-winning Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, explore the dangers of ambition with two American indies, and join us for the start of our 2019 Best Foreign Language Film Festival.
Over the next five Fridays, we will be screening five very different films that were the official submissions to this year’s Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Hailing from countries as diverse as Belgium, Lebanon, Japan, Sweden and Iceland – and spanning genres from personal drama to black comedy to surreal fantasy – don’t miss your chance to catch these little-seen international gems on the big screen at the ANU Film Group!
