What's On This Week: SECRET CITY, Danish Film Double + Support ANUFG @ Grill'd!

8th September, 2016

The ANU may be in the middle of their non-teaching break at the moment, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have some very special treats lined up for this week’s screenings…

First up on Friday, we take a break from our regular programming to screen Foxtel’s new political thriller SECRET CITY, which features none other than our very own Canberra in a starring role alongside the likes of Anna Torv, Jackie Weaver, Alan Dale and an all-star international cast.

Come along and check out the acclaimed mini-series on the big screen in a special presentation screening across two consecutive Fridays – only at the ANU Film Group! Episodes 1 to 3 will screen this Friday (September 9), followed by episodes 4 to 6 screening next Friday (September 16).

Then, on Saturday, it’s a double feature of Danish delights with two films presented by the Embassy of Denmark. On this night, not only will you get a chance to see two exemplary examples of Danish cinema, but the Embassy has also been kind enough to cater for complimentary Danish cookies, coffee and tea for everyone in attendance in the interval between the films!

Our wonderful canteen run by the Rotary Club of Woden Daybreak will also be commemorating the occasion with special Danish hot dogs available only on the night. Only a limited number of these hot dogs will be made, so be sure to get in quick for one of these special treats.

WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK
................................................................

Just in case seeing Canberra on the big screen and feasting on Danish treats isn’t enough to entice you to come along to this week’s screenings, here’s a rundown of what’s on this week.

• Fri 9 Sep @ 7:30 PM: SECRET CITY: EPISODES 1 – 3

Amidst rising tensions between China and America, the body of a young man washes up on the edge of Lake Burley Griffin under mysterious circumstances. Beginning to suspect that a number of seemingly disconnected events may be part of a larger conspiracy, intrepid political journalist Harriet Dunkley (Torv) works to uncover the truth hiding beneath the placid façade of the nation’s capital.

** Note: each episode runs for approximately 60 minutes. There will be a 10-minute intermission in between each episode, during which our canteen will be open for you to purchase snacks and drinks. **

• Sat 10 Sep @ **7 PM**: THE ABSENT ONE + A SECOND CHANCE

In THE ABSENT ONE, after an ex-cop desperately appeals to them to look into the unsolved murder of his teenage children, a pair of cold case detectives embark on a twisted mission to discover what really happened at one of Denmark’s top boarding schools in the 1990s. This follow up to 2013’s THE KEEPER OF LOST CAUSES is next instalment in the Department Q franchise.

Then, in A SECOND CHANCE (at approx. 9:15 PM), two police officers leading very different lives have vastly conflicting reactions to their latest case, involving a junkie couple that they suspect has been abusing their baby. Directed by Oscar-winner director Susanne Bier (AFTER THE WEDDING, IN A BETTER WORLD).

** THE ABSENT ONE and A SECOND CHANCE are proudly presented by the Embassy of Denmark **
