WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK
................................................................

Animated sausages get naughty, Matthew McConaughey fights in the Civil War, Blake Lively faces off against a shark, and some true cinematic gems from Spain, France and Japan round up the selection of films screening this week at the ANU Film Group.

• Wed 28 Sep @ 7:30 PM: OUR LITTLE SISTER

Abandoned by their parents, three sisters live and grow up together in their late grandmother’s house. When their father passes away, they half-heartedly attend his funeral and are surprised to discover that they have a 13-year-old half-sister, who they invite to come live with them.

• Thu 29 Sep @ 7:30 PM: PAN’S LABYRINTH (2006)

In the last of our Back to the Film Group retrospective screenings, revisit Guillermo del Toro’s triple-Oscar-winning fantasy masterpiece for its 10th anniversary.

In 1944, in post-Civil War Spain, a young imaginative girl is sent to live with her new stepfather, a sadistic and cruel army officer, in the countryside. There, she meets a mysterious faun who tells her that she is in fact a princess but must first complete three tasks in order to see her real father, the King, again.

• Fri 30 Sep @ 7:30 PM: FREE STATE OF JONES + THE STUDENT AND MR. HENRI

In FREE STATE OF JONES, as the Civil War divides America in 1863, a defiant Southern farmer (Matthew McConaughey) from Mississippi leads a group of anti-slavery Confederate deserters in turning against and seceding from the Confederacy in an extraordinary uprising.

Then, in French comedy-drama THE STUDENT AND MR. HENRI, an elderly curmudgeon lets out a room in his large apartment rent-free to a young female student on one condition: that she does everything in her power to ruin his son’s marriage, whose wife he is bitterly opposed to.

• Sat 1 Oct @ **7 PM**: SAUSAGE PARTY + THE SHALLOWS

In the riotous and raunchy – and definitely not suitable for children – animated comedy SAUSAGE PARTY, one brave sausage leads a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave their home at the supermarket.

Then, in THE SHALLOWS (at approx. 8:30 PM), a young woman (Blake Lively) surfing on a secluded beach finds herself being targeted by a great white shark. Though less than 200 metres from shore, surviving the ordeal proves to be the ultimate test, requiring all of her ingenuity and resourcefulness.
