29th June, 2018

That’s right – we’re only a few week away from the end of Semester One and the start of Semester Two just two days later on Monday 16 July!

We’re thrilled to announce that we will be kicking off our new programme with a FREE screening of one of the biggest films of all time, Marvel’s AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, which recently blew past $2 billion at the worldwide box office. In the film, the evil Thanos sets out to amass six all-powerful Infinity Stones, which will allow him to re-balance the universe by eradicating half of all life. And it’s up to all of Earth’s mightiest heroes – including the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy – to come together to stop him.

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Pratt, Josh Brolin and dozens of other actors, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR brings together the past 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in epic blockbuster fashion.

Come and see it again – or see what the fuss is about – for FREE on Monday 16 July at 7:30 PM. Doors will open at 7 PM for entry, and it will be busy, so don’t be late!

And our full Semester Two 2018 programme will be released towards the end of next week, so stay tuned to find out about the other 80+ films we’ll be screening between July and November. We can’t wait to share it with you!

WHAT’S ON THIS WEEK
...............................................................

One of the best Australian films of the year comes to the ANU Film Group tonight, along with a bitingly hilarious double feature of chaotic comedy on Saturday night.

• FRI 29 JUNE @ 7:30 PM: SWEET COUNTRY (MA, 113 min)

In 1929, an Aboriginal farmhand (Hamilton Morris) and his wife are forced to go on the run when he kills a white man in self-defence and a posse gathers to hunt him down, in this acclaimed drama from director Warwick Thornton. Also starring Bryan Brown and Sam Neill.

** Presented in partnership with the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS), who have kindly extended an invitation to all ANUFG members to join them for light refreshments in the foyer directly opposite the main doors to the Coombs Theatre from 6:45 PM tonight. Please that our canteen will still be operating as normal from 7 PM **

• SAT 30 JUNE @ ** 7 PM**: THE DEATH OF STALIN (MA, 107 min) + THE PARTY (MA, 74 min)

It's 1953 in Moscow and Soviet leader Joseph Stalin has just died. His Council of Ministers panic as they scramble to maintain order, take out the competition, and each try to take power in the ensuing chaos, in this hilarious political satire from the director of IN THE LOOP and TV's Veep.

Then, in THE PARTY (at approx. 9 PM), a newly-appointed British politician throws a party to celebrate her new promotion, which quickly turns to chaos as soon as the guests arrive. Starring Kristin Scott Thomas, Patricia Clarkson, Timothy Spall and Cillian Murphy.
