Screening Changes: Thursday 19 & Saturday 21 March

9th March, 2020

Due to two unexpected changes, we have had to make some last-minute adjustments to our programming for next week on both Thursday 19 March and Saturday 21 March.

Firstly, our scheduled screening of THE RHYTHM SECTION at 7:30 PM on Saturday 21 March cannot proceed as planned as its distributor has decided to no longer release the film in Australian cinemas. In its place, we will instead be screening Clint Eastwood’s latest film, RICHARD JEWELL, originally on our programme for Thursday 19 March.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG will still screen as scheduled at 5 PM on Saturday 21 March.

On Thursday 19 March, taking the place of RICHARD JEWELL, we will be co-hosting with the ANU a special Q&A screening of acclaimed Australian documentary THE FINAL QUARTER. This event will be preceded by a reception with canapés, and then followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with director Ian Darling and other special guests.

THE FINAL QUARTER is one of two documentaries released last year about AFL footballer and Indigenous leader Adam Goodes. Like THE AUSTRALIAN DREAM (which we screened last season), the film focuses on the final chapter of Goodes’ playing career when he became the centre of a heated public debate that divided the nation – a powerful and confronting demonstration of the racism that still exists within Australia today.

The film’s director, Ian Darling, is an ANU alumnus whose production company aims to create social documentaries that have an impact beyond the screen. His director and producer credits include PAUL KELLY – STORIES OF ME, 2040, THE HUNTING GROUND, THAT SUGAR FILM and more.

Please note the earlier start times for this special event:

• 5:30 PM – Pre-screening reception and canapés
• 6:00 PM – Film starts
• 7:15 PM – Panel discussion and audience Q&A

All ANUFG members and guests are invited to attend this free event, but registration is required for catering purposes. Please secure your tickets online via Eventbrite at THIS LINK

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these screening changes, and hope that you will be able to make it along to the Q&A event screening of THE FINAL QUARTER next Thursday and RICHARD JEWELL at its new time next Saturday.
