• Tue 6 Aug @ 8 PM: THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE

When a daring street performer’s (Jim Carrey) stunts begin to make their show look stale, a pair of old-school superstar magicians (Steve Carell and Steve Buscemi) attempt to reinvent themselves in order to salvage their act and their friendship.

• Thu 8 Aug @ 8 PM: JACK THE GIANT SLAYER

An ancient war between humans and giants is reignited when a young farmhand named Jack (Nicholas Hoult) inadvertently opens a gateway between the two worlds. Directed by Bryan Singer (X-MEN) and co-starring Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci.

• Fri 9 Aug @ 8 PM: SAMSARA followed by KON-TIKI (1950)

A rare documentary double feature night at the Film Group begins with SAMSARA, an unconventional documentary filmed over five years in twenty-five countries on five continents. With stunning cinematography, the film transports viewers to varied worlds of wonder and is best experienced on the biggest screen possible.

Then, in KON-TIKI, accompany legendary explorer Thor Heyerdal’s on his epic crossing of the Pacific Ocean on a wooden raft through actual footage filmed by Heyerdal and his crew on their voyage. Academy Award Winner for Best Documentary in 1951, and a must-see for anyone who saw the recent dramatic re-telling of the tale.

• Sat 10 Aug @ **7 PM**: RUST AND BONE followed by YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH

In RUST AND BONE, an unemployed single father meets and falls for an orca trainer while out on the town one night. After tragedy strikes one of them, they form a unique bond in this award-winning French romantic drama starring Marion Cotillard.

Then, in YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH, a timid professor is struck by lightning and discovers that he is growing younger and smarter each day. While avoiding Nazis who wish to experiment on him, the man meets a similarly affected woman in this fantasy drama from famed director Francis Ford Coppola (THE GODFATHER).

It’s August and that means more classic films on offer at Palace Electric as part of their Vintage Electric season! Coming up each Sunday this month is such eclectic fare as EDWARD SCISSORHANDS and SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN. And thanks for our friends at Palace Electric, we’ve got tickets to give away to their screening of one of Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpieces, THE BIRDS, on Sunday 18 August at 3 PM.

The 1963 classic follows a wealthy socialite (Tippi Hedren) who pursues a potential suitor to a small bay side town. Her trip soon becomes a fight for survival when birds of all kinds suddenly begin to attack the town’s residents in increasing numbers and with increasing viciousness.
