Semester One kicks off on Monday with free SKYFALL!

9th February, 2013

In case you’ve been living under a rock (or just not receiving our emails), Semester One 2013 of the ANU Film Group’s 47th year kicks off on Monday with a screening of the latest James Bond film, SKYFALL, at 8 PM.

It’s an absolutely free screening that’s open to anyone and everyone, so bring along all of your family and friends -- particularly those who have always been curious about the Film Group, but have never actually been to a screening! Not to be overly narcissistic, but we think what we do is pretty awesome, and we hope that you do too. So why not share the ANUFG experience with as many people as possible?

Semester One booklets and posters have just arrived too, so be sure to come along and grab one -- or a few -- on your way into any screening. Put one up at work, at home, or even in the toilet (some people do)... Why not?!

One thing in particular to note about our new programme is that ALL SATURDAY SCREENINGS now being at the earlier starting time of 7 PM, in response to feedback we’ve received over the past few semesters. These will be regular double features, with the second film of the night following the first after a 15-minute intermission. Our new website has also been updated with full programme details, and will now give you the approximate start time of the second film of a double feature should you only wish to see that.

Last but not least, we’ve got a great semester of screenings planned for the next six months and couldn’t be more excited about our new programme. To get you similarly excited, here’s a brief rundown of the line-up for the first week:

• Mon 11 Feb @ 8 PM: SKYFALL (Free Screening)

Kick off the screening year with Bond… James Bond as he finds his loyalty to M tested when a threat from her past comes back to haunt her in this critically acclaimed, record breaking 23rd entry in the series.

• Thu 14 Feb @ 8 PM: THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER

A troubled, introvert 15-year-old is shown a new way of life by two seniors he meets at his high school. Based on the critically acclaimed novel.

• Fri 15 Feb @ 8 PM: BACHELORETTE followed by SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS

It's a double feature of two different kinds of psychos! Kirsten Dunst leads a group of three spiteful bridesmaids in a night-long quest to fix a wedding they’ve unintentionally ruined in BACHELORETTE, and in SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS, an all-star cast of madmen find themselves in hot water after the beloved Shih Tzu of an infamous gangster is kidnapped.

• Sat 16 Feb @ 7 PM: FRANKENWEENIE followed by THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

A Tim Burton stop-motion animation extravaganza! The night begins with his latest film, the Oscar-nominated FRANKENWEENIE, which tells the story of a boy who decides to bring his deceased dog back to life. Then celebrate the 20th anniversary of the classic THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, in which Jack Skellington, king of Halloween town, discovers Christmas for the first time. Note the 7 PM start time!
