Our second week of screenings begins with an exclusive Canberra premiere screening of Clint Eastwood’s latest film: TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE screening this Tuesday at 8 PM.
Despite getting a theatrical release around the country, Canberra missed out on this baseball drama -- dubbed by some as the anti-MONEYBALL -- when it was first released, so here’s your chance to be among the first in town to check it out!
Here’s what’s on at the Film Group for the week:
• Tue 19 Feb @ 8 PM: TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE
An ailing baseball scout (Clint Eastwood) takes his daughter (Amy Adams) along for one last recruiting trip in an effort to prove his worth. Also starring Justin Timberlake and John Goodman.
• Thu 21 Feb @ 8 PM: THE INTOUCHABLES
The heart-warming, true story of a quadriplegic French aristocrat who hires an underprivileged and unqualified young man to be his caretaker.
• Fri 22 Feb @ 8 PM: THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY
A young Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) embarks on a quest with Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) and a group of Dwarves to reclaim their mountain home from a dragon.
• Sat 23 Feb @ **7 PM**: WRECK-IT RALPH followed by 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU
In the Oscar-nominated WRECK-IT RALPH, a video game villain desperately dreams of one day becoming a hero. Then, revisit the beloved high school comedy 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU, starring Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Thanks to Hoyts Distribution, we have five double passes to give away to the upcoming crime thriller BROKEN CITY, starring Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
In the film, an ex-cop turned private detective (Wahlberg) is hired by the Mayor of New York (Crowe) to tail his wife (Zeta-Jones). But when he finds himself double-crossed and framed in a city-wide conspiracy, he sets out to seek redemption and revenge.
BROKEN CITY is released by Hoyts Distribution / STUDIOCANAL in cinemas on March 7. To find out more about the film, or check out its trailer, click HERE.

We have been advised that there is a printing error in the ANU’s Orientation Week brochure, and that additional sessions of the ANU Film Group’s screening of SKYFALL are being advertised on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week.
Unfortunately, we are only holding one free screening of SKYFALL, and that was on Monday 11 February. We will not be screening the film again during O-Week.
We will still be screening THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER on Thursday 14 February at 8 PM as advertised. This screening is FREE for all ANU students, so please come along and try out the ANU Film Group then!
In case you’ve been living under a rock (or just not receiving our emails), Semester One 2013 of the ANU Film Group’s 47th year kicks off on Monday with a screening of the latest James Bond film, SKYFALL, at 8 PM.
It’s an absolutely free screening that’s open to anyone and everyone, so bring along all of your family and friends -- particularly those who have always been curious about the Film Group, but have never actually been to a screening! Not to be overly narcissistic, but we think what we do is pretty awesome, and we hope that you do too. So why not share the ANUFG experience with as many people as possible?
Semester One booklets and posters have just arrived too, so be sure to come along and grab one -- or a few -- on your way into any screening. Put one up at work, at home, or even in the toilet (some people do)... Why not?!
One thing in particular to note about our new programme is that ALL SATURDAY SCREENINGS now being at the earlier starting time of 7 PM, in response to feedback we’ve received over the past few semesters. These will be regular double features, with the second film of the night following the first after a 15-minute intermission. Our new website has also been updated with full programme details, and will now give you the approximate start time of the second film of a double feature should you only wish to see that.
Last but not least, we’ve got a great semester of screenings planned for the next six months and couldn’t be more excited about our new programme. To get you similarly excited, here’s a brief rundown of the line-up for the first week:
• Mon 11 Feb @ 8 PM: SKYFALL (Free Screening)
