Screening Changes: EVERYBODY WANTS SOME + FREE STATE OF JONES

17th April, 2016

Thanks to everyone who came along for our screening of ME AND MY MATES VS. THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE on Saturday, and especially those who stuck around to participate in the insightful and highly entertaining Q&A that followed!

Particular thanks must go to our special guests for the evening: writer/director Declan Shrubb, actor Andy Trieu, and producers Daniel Sanguineti and Chris Wiseman. If you weren’t able to make it along, be sure to head over to www.matesvszombies.com to support their film by grabbing a copy of the DVD or watching it online.

We’ve also posted a few snaps of the Q&A onto Facebook, which you can check out by clicking HERE.

If you enjoyed getting a behind-the-scenes look at the filmmaking process, make sure you mark down Saturday May 21st in your calendar now, as award-winning director Jennifer Peedom will be joining us for a Q&A screening of her highly acclaimed Everest documentary SHERPA. Save the date!

SCREENING CHANGES: EVERYBODY WANTS SOME + FREE STATE OF JONES
................................................................

Due to a number of theatrical release date changes, we have had to replace two upcoming films on our Semester One programme.

First up, director Richard Linklater’s EVERYBODY WANTS SOME, which was originally programmed for May 19, will now only be released in late June. Replacing it on our programme will be acclaimed Australian drama THE DAUGHTER, starring an ensemble cast including Geoffrey Rush, Miranda Otto, Paul Schneider, Anna Torv and Sam Neill.

The film tells the story of a man returning home to his small logging hometown for his father’s wedding, where he inadvertently unearths a long-buried family secret. As he tries to right the wrongs of the past, his actions threaten to shatter the lives of those he left behind years before.

THE DAUGHTER will screen on Thursday 19 May at 7:30 PM.

Secondly, FREE STATE OF JONES starring Matthew McConaughey has also had its release delayed to late July. In its place on June 25 will now be BASTILLE DAY, an upcoming action thriller starring Idris Elba.

Elba stars as a CIA agent on assignment in Paris who is forced to work with an American pickpocket when the young man inadvertently stumbles upon a terrorist plot against the city. The unlikely duo soon uncovers a deadly conspiracy that turns them both into targets.

BASTILLE DAY will screen on Saturday 25 June at 7 PM. It will be followed by the night’s originally scheduled second feature, ROCK THE KASBAH, at approximately 8:45 PM.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these changes, and will endeavour to screen both EVERYBODY WANTS SOME and FREE STATE OF JONES as part of our Semester Two programme.

The ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE Begins Tomorrow!

15th April, 2016

The first of this semester’s filmmaker Q&A screenings will be taking place tomorrow night as the ANU Film Group presents Canberra’s very own Oz-zom-com! Special guests, including writer-director Declan Shrubb and actor Andy Trieu, will be in attendance for a post-screening discussion, with plenty of stories to be told and prizes to be won, so be sure to come along/stick around for that.

................................................................
DONATE BLOOD AND SAVE LIVES TOGETHER
................................................................

It may be fun to see zombies spilling blood on the big screen, but did you know that donated blood platelets only have an extremely short life span of just five days? The Australian Red Cross is always on the lookout for blood donors, and the need for blood never takes a holiday, so we would like to encourage those of you who are eligible to donate blood to please consider doing so.

The ANU Film Group is registered with the Red Cross’s RED25 program, which unites communities around Australia in saving lives through blood donation, so it would also be greatly appreciated if you nominated us as your associated club to demonstrate our support of such a worthy cause. You can join our RED25 group anytime by clicking HERE.

Call 13 14 95 to make an appointment or go to the Red Cross website – www.donateblood.com.au – to find locations and hours for your local donor centre.
