October 2015

Screening Change: ODDBALL on Sat 14 Nov + Semester Memberships Now $30

28th October, 2015

Thanks to everyone who came along to our special UNSCRIPTED! event on Saturday. We hope you all enjoyed the show!

For those who missed out, the mystery film that we ended up live dubbing was TEENAGERS FROM OUTER SPACE, a 1959 sci-fi ‘classic’ with a hilariously low budget. But in the hands of our improvisers, it became something else entirely as they brought to life the tale of Frank-Hank-Jerry, his fellow aliens on a quest for mayo, Bread Roll Cave, perfume salesmen, the Caterpillar Virus, genital clouds, and the return of the Spice Girls.

Needless to say, it was certainly a very original and entertaining evening – and one that wouldn't have been possible without our fearless and talented performers: Ben Crowley, Brad Hoff and Katherine Green.

..............................................................
SCREENING CHANGE: ‘ODDBALL’ NOW SCREENING ON NOV 14
...............................................................

Due to a last minute availability change, we are no longer able to screen ADAM JONES (now titled BURNT) on Saturday 14 November as originally scheduled. In its place, we will instead be screening the highly successful Australian family film ODDBALL at 7 PM.

On Middle Island in Victoria, Little Penguins have made their home for many years – at least until wild foxes find their way onto the island and begin drastically reducing the population of its native inhabitants. An eccentric chicken farmer (Shane Jacobson) enlists the help of his granddaughter to train their mischievous dog, Oddball, to protect the penguins from the predators.

Based on the heart-warming and incredible true story, ODDBALL has taken Australia by storm, earning over $10 million at the local box office to become the third most successful Australian film this year behind only MAD MAX: FURY ROAD and THE WATER DIVINER. The film also stars Sarah Snook, Alan Tudyk and Deborah Mailman.

BLACK MASS, the acclaimed crime drama starring Johnny Depp, will remain as the night’s second feature starting now at approximately 8:45 PM.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this change.

..............................................................
SEMESTER TWO MEMBERSHIPS NOW $30!
..............................................................

As we head into our last month of screenings, we’re dropping the price of Semester Two memberships by $10 – down to just $30 for the rest of the year!

This include some fantastic new films coming up on the programme including THE MARTIAN, EVEREST, THE INTERN, PAN, BLACK MASS, PIXELS and ODDBALL. So if you have any friends or family that (gasp!) aren’t already members of the Film Group, please share this offer with them and get in quick to experience the best way to see movies in Canberra before screenings wind up for the year.

Discounted Semester memberships can be purchased at the door at any screening from this week onwards, as well as online now at www.anufg.org.au/join

..............................................................

ANT-MAN, TERMINATOR GENISYS This Week + Trivia Night Thank You

4th September, 2015

A massive THANK YOU to all of you who came along and supported our Annual Trivia Night last Friday!

The event was a phenomenal success, and was our best-attended Trivia Night to date with over 200 people in attendance – not to mention a similarly record-breaking level of funds raised for the Film Group. We hope everyone there had as great a time as we had putting it all together… if not better!

For those of you who weren't able to make it along, not to worry – we’ll be back bigger and even better next year as part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations. In the meantime, be sure to take a look at some of what you missed out on with our album of photos from the night's ‘Best Production Design’ round which can be found on Facebook HERE.

The round required teams to creatively depict a randomly assigned Best Picture Oscar winner in play-doh form. And as you can see, the end results were definitely Oscar worthy!
