December has Christmas. February has Valentine’s Day. October has Halloween. And August has the ANU Film Group’s Annual Trivia Night coming up on FRIDAY 31 AUGUST!
If you're reading this and thinking "Not another trivia night!" then you clearly haven't been to one of our legendary trivia nights. Now in its 12th year, this highly-anticipated annual event is a trivia extravaganza unlike anything you'll have experienced at your local pub quiz night.
All questions will be about movies – but we cover a wide range of movies, question types, and even difficulty levels (some require no movie knowledge whatsoever). And it wouldn't be an ANUFG trivia night without heaps of fun audio-visual and interactive elements too.
The event is our primary fundraiser for the year, with tons of exciting prizes to be won, courtesy of some very generous prize sponsors from restaurants, shops and businesses around Canberra. A whole lot of effort (months of planning!) is put into making it a special night for all who come along, so why not give it a try?
The event will be held at the Hellenic Club of Canberra in Woden, on Friday 31 August with entry from 7 PM and questions starting from 7:30 PM.
Tickets are $20 and available for purchase for yourself, a small group, or a whole team of up to 10 people. We'd love to say you'll enjoy it or get your money back... but it is a fundraiser after all, so you'll just have to take our word for it! ;-)
Visit www.anufg.org.au/trivia for more information, or to buy your tickets online now. Tickets will also be available for purchase at all ANUFG screenings from August 1 onwards.
All 371 seats at our free screening of OCEAN'S 8 on Monday were taken before the film's scheduled start time, so we're doing it all over again this Sunday!
If you missed out on Monday (or enjoyed the film so much you want to see it again), be sure to come along on SUNDAY 29 JULY for another chance to see this star-studded crime comedy for FREE.
Doors will open at 6:30 PM for a 7 PM film start.
Our canteen run by the folks at the Rotary Club at Woden Daybreak will also be making a special appearance on Sunday night, so please remember to stop by and pick up a snack to support them. All proceeds from canteen sales go to charity.
• SUN 29 JULY @ **7 PM**: OCEAN’S 8 (M, 110 min) – FREE ENCORE SCREENING
Criminal mastermind Debbie Ocean gathers a crew of seven other female thieves to pull off the heist of the century by stealing a necklace worth more than $150 million at New York’s annual Met Gala. Starring Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter.
We’re celebrating (or commiserating?) classes being back in session with TWO more free screenings this week – OCEAN’S 8 tonight and SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY on Friday!
Make sure you tell everyone you know and invite them along to check out Australia’s biggest and best film society on us. As a not-for-profit society, we rely heavily on word of mouth to find new members – and inviting new people along to a free screening is a fantastic way of showing off what we do best.
As with all of our screenings, doors will open from half an hour before the film starts, and entry will be on a first come, first served basis until all 371 seats in the theatre are occupied. Please also note that there are no encore screenings of either OCEAN’S 8 or SOLO presently scheduled, so be sure to come along early to avoid disappointment.
Our canteen run by the Rotary Club of Woden Daybreak will also be opening tonight (they normally only operate on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays) with hot dogs, popcorn, hot/cold drinks and a wide array of snacks available for purchase – and all proceeds going to charity. So you can have your favourite movie snack and feel good about it too!
